अंतिम अपडेट: 7 अक्टूबर 2026 - 11:55 am

Indian equities opened on a weak note on Wednesday, October 7, with the Nifty 50 declining 0.74% to 22,614 around 9:17 AM. The cautious opening was driven by rising crude oil prices, mixed Asian cues and investor nervousness ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision. Brent crude rose around 0.88% to $101.4 a barrel, adding to concerns over inflation and the domestic rate outlook.

The RBI raised the repo rate by 25 bps to 5.5%, marking its first rate hike since February 2023, and shifted its stance to calibrated tightening. The rate hike weighed on rate-sensitive sectors, with financials, auto and realty stocks coming under pressure.

Institutional flows remained a key overhang, with Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continuing to sell Indian equities. FIIs were net sellers of ₹2,961 crore on Tuesday, October 6, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided support by buying equities worth ₹5,089 crore.
